The structure of our therapies reflects the learning system based on developmental milestones - VB-Mapp. Using this tool, we can track and measure the child's progress continuously. This tool also provides a clear picture of a child's strengths and weaknesses and suggests direction and goals we should aim for.
Assessment, Plan, and Success
Home-based therapy sessions are comprehensively planned. Based on the initial assessment, we identify deficient areas of the child and set the methods, procedures, and goals we want to reach. We consider the individual needs, wishes, and plans of the client and his/her family. Our approach is based on joy, fun, and motivation. However, we closely monitor the progress, collect the data, and measure the effectiveness of the procedures. During the therapy, we use a variety of basic principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and Natural Environment Teaching (NET). The goal is to build a strong foundation for the child's development and maximize his/her individual potential.

Preparation
For home-based therapy, we recommend preparing a working place in advance. Ideally, find a separate room with a table and chairs, without the television and other electronics that could disrupt the lessons. The lesson is provided separately from household activities. That allows other family members to engage in their usual routines. However, the presence of parents and their cooperation during the lessons is necessary as they should be fully available for assistance or urgent situations that might occur during this time. The parent or caregiver is always directly or indirectly involved in the therapy, fully informed about the progress of each lesson, and instructed about new learning strategies. We teach, guide, and support, but the key therapist in the whole process is the parent.
Tools
The nature of in-home therapies allows us to take advantage of a familiar and safe environment for gaining new skills. We can teach in the bathroom, kitchen, or living room. During the session, we may utilize regular household items, tools, toys, objects, and activities, especially those preferred by the child. Joy, motivation, and willingness to cooperate are the fundamental prerequisites for successful learning. We believe fostering a friendly relationship with the child is an essential tool. The parents stay an active participant in the therapy, an observer, a learner, and a team partner. Parents should be capable of using most of the procedures and approaches in daily life and continue with the therapy when the therapist is not present. The collaboration of parents, siblings, and other family members is a key prerequisite, another half of the success of the entire process.
Advantages
Our home represents a familiar, predictable, and safe environment, the perfect place for learning. Teaching at home often eliminates potential stress related to transitions between different environments. Also, home therapy allows other family members to take part in this process and contribute to success. Their awareness and cooperation play an important role in the process and have a positive effect on potential results. Your child will gain skills he/she can utilize to improve independence and functional living within the family unit, and the social environment, too.
